LAX Hosts Cargo-Focused Education Event With Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce
(Los Angeles, CA)  Nearly 100 high school students from all over Los Angeles arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this morning for an up close and personal look at international trade at the nation’s second-busiest airport. The event is part of an ongoing education series coordinated by World Trade Week (WTW) Education Committee and International Trade Education Programs (ITEP). The day included an airfield tour and a visit to Delta Air Lines’ cargo facilities, as well as having the students work with mentors from the Los Angeles Air Cargo Association and Customs and Border Protection to apply their problem-solving skills to cargo-related scenarios.

LAWA RECOMMENDS LINXS TO DESIGN, BUILD, FINANCE, OPERATE & MAINTAIN THE AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER AT LAX

(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) has approved LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) as the Recommended Developer (RD) and has initiated the first agreement between the parties. The agreement with LINXS sets in motion the path towards full contract approval by BOAC and the Los Angeles City Council in April to design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) the Automated People Mover (APM) at LAX.

Middle School Students Jump-Start Their Aviation Imaginations at Annual LAX Job Shadow Day

(Los Angeles, CA) Students from Orville Wright and (Judge) Albert Monroe Middle Schools were treated to an airfield bus ride and a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations as part of today’s LAX Job Shadow Day. The annual event allows students to learn about aviation careers from those working at the airport, including engineers, project managers, law enforcement officers, community relations specialists, and pilots. The event took place at the Flight Path Museum and Learning Center, and included mentors from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Compass Airlines.

LAX Harvest Food Donation Program Donates 51,000 Pounds of Food to Local Community Groups
(Los Angeles, CA) The LAX Harvest Food Donation Program, a partnership between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and concessionaires HMSHost, Hudson Group, and Delaware North, donated 107,151 items, totaling 51,792 pounds, of high-quality, unsold grab-and-go food during 2017.  These familiar food items, normally seen in various stores in LAX’s nine terminals, included sandwiches, salads, and wraps along with other fresh food.  By donating this food to local community groups, non-profit organizations, and churches, the partnership minimized food waste while working towards addressing food insecurity in the local community.
